Why we are asking
Alice Springs is not short of tradespeople. It is short of coordination. When a job needs an electrician, a plumber and a glazier in the same week, the wait is rarely one trade being busy, it is three diaries that never speak to each other. That is the gap the Hub exists to close, and the order we close it in depends on what the town tells us is hardest to get.
A trade only gets recruited when there is real demand behind it. So this is not a mailing-list form dressed up as research. Which trade you pick as the hardest to get is the thing that decides which trade gets recruited next.
What happens to your answer
- It is counted, not read out. Answers are aggregated into a demand signal. Nobody is quoted, and no answer is passed to a trade business.
- You can stay anonymous. Name and contact are optional and the survey works without them. Leave them only if you want to hear when something you asked for launches.
- Two minutes, then it is done. There is no follow-up sequence and no newsletter.
What we already know
Before listing a single trade we went and read the record on buying groups and trade co-operatives, including the ones that failed and why. We also read what the Northern Territory actually rewards when it buys: local content is weighted at a minimum of 30 per cent and price is capped at a maximum of 30 per cent, which is the opposite of how most people assume government buys.
